As well as providing magnificent scenery, sunshine and beaches, Boca Raton in Florida offers a host of activities that will thrill and entertain any seasoned traveller. If sunbathing for two weeks straight sounds like your idea of a nightmare then the city is buzzing with both indoor and outdoor adventures that will leave you wondering where the time went! For sports fans, there are limitless opportunities for al-fresco fun whilst culture vultures can explore the artistic side of the city.

 

If you’re a golf fan, Boca Raton is a heavenly spot for a holiday. Players are spoilt for choice with destinations such as the Red Reef Park Executive Golf Course ($28.00 for 9 holes) conveniently located moments from the beach. Alternatively, guests at the Boca Beach Club can enjoy The Country Club Course, set just a short shuttle ride from the beach club as well as professional instruction at the Dave Pelz Scoring Game School from the game guru who has coached players including Phil Mickelson.

 

Water sport fans are also very well catered for in Boca Raton with a number of activities accessible from the beachfront. Flying Fish Watersports, based next to South Inlet Park on the beach offers kayaking rental ($35 per person per hour), snorkelling ($65 per person per hour) and even FlyBoarding for adrenaline junkies ($140 per person per hour).

 

Nature and wildlife fans should definitely head to the Gumbo Limbo Nature Centre, located on the waterfront next to Red Reef Park, which is home to a number of aquariums, a sea turtle rehabilitation facility and butterfly garden. There are also a host of activities to keep the little ones entertained including scavenger hunts and nature walks. Admission is free of charge but donations to assist with the sea turtle conservation are welcomed.

 

On holidays it’s always good to have a back-up plan with indoor activities in case the weather decides to be unforgiving. In Boca Raton, there’s no shortage of options as there’s a myriad of under-cover venues to explore. For families, the Childrens Science Explorium (located in Sugar Sand Park) is free of charge and showcases immersive travelling exhibits from national and international science museums. Alternatively, there’s the Boca Raton Museum of Art with an educational gallery, photography exhibitions and a sculpture garden. Adult tickets are $12 whilst children and students go in free of charge.

 

A trip to Boca Raton is not complete without a day trip to the luxurious Town Center at Boca Raton®, which is conveniently located off Glades Road, the main road running inland from the coast. Stop off at the mall before or after a beach visit to treat yourself to some serious retail therapy and browse an amazing selection of products at over 220 stores.
